Nairobi, July 5 (SUNA) - The 39th.  IGAD extraordinary summit opened session in Nairobi today, with participation of President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), the current head of IGAD organization, Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, who is accompanied by Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Sudan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Jamal Al-Sheikh.

Al-Burhan was received at the presidential palace in Nairobi by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The summit is scheduled to discuss issues that contribute to strengthening the leaders' efforts to address the region's challenges, which are peace and security, drought, desertification and climate change issues, in addition to food security issues and the impact of Covid-19 on the economic situation in the region.

The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit with heads of state and government of member countries of the organization.
